Tanah Lot Temple
Tanah Lot is located in Beraban village, Kediri district at Tabanan regency. It is around 13 kilometers on the south of Tabanan city. To the north of Tanah Lot Temple, another temple built on a cliff that jutted into the sea. This cliff connects the temple with the land and is shaped like a bridge (curved). This temple is called Pura Karang Bolong.
According to legend, this temple was built by a wandering brahmin from Java, namely Danghyang Nirartha who succeeded in strengthening the belief of the Balinese population on Hindu teachings and building Sad Kahyangan in the 16th century. At that time, the ruler of Tanah Lot named Bendesa Beraben felt jealous of him because his followers began to go to follow Danghyang Nirartha. Bendesa Beraben then ordered Danghyang Nirartha to leave Tanah Lot. Danghyang Nirartha agreed, but before he with his power moved the Stone Slag to the center of the beach (not to the sea) and built the temple there. He also changed his shawl into a snake guardian of the temple. This snake is still there today and scientifically this snake including sea snake species that have the characteristics of flat-tailed like fish, black color yellow and has toxic 3 times stronger than cobra. Finally it was mentioned that Bendesa Beraben became a follower of Danghyang Nirartha.
The uniqueness of Tanah Lot is related to the myth of the local people about the sacred serpent in Tanah Lot Temple, the sacred serpent Tanah Lot is believed to be the guardian and savior of Tanah Lot Temple from the nasty attacks that disturb the holiness of the temple. The type of snake is from the Latin named Bungarus candidus, sea snakes are very poisonous and dangerous, the body has a black and white circular.
This holy serpent will attack anyone who wants to do evil and want to destroy the existence and sanctity of Pura Tanah Lot, but even so the holy serpent will remain silent and calm in the cave located at the corner of the rock near the temple Tanah Lot, even visitors Can touch and stroke this serpent without worrying about the counterattack of this snake and of course we will be accompanied by someone who understands the character of this sacred snake. Local people also believe by touching this sacred snake while praying then what we want will be granted, a myth that can be trusted or not.

Visiting Pura Uluwatu tour is also very impressive with the many monkeys around the temple area. But we must be careful when visiting this temple, if you meet monkeys try not to disturb them. Because these monkeys are quite fierce and sometimes they can take valuables that we carry like glasses, bags or hats. Another thing that can be observed in Pura Uluwatu is Kecak Dance and Fire Dance performance. The show begins with the sunset.
Kecak and Fire Dance
Enjoying the sunset while watching a group of Kecak dancers perform in the middle of Uluwatu Temple area is the most exciting experience during your vacation in Bali. Kecak dance is a dance that was invented and created by Balinese artists namely Wayan Limbak and a friend from Germany. At the beginning of its emergence this type of dance was created by accidentally taken from a traditional dance worship known as Shangyang. Sanghyang is a type of traditional Balinese dance performed in religious ceremonies such as rejecting reinforcements as well as expelling an outbreak of disease.
From a Sanghyang staging then Wayan Limbak with Walter Spies innovate to create a dance movement as one of their love of the culture and art of Bali. One type of dance art is presented by the dancers who sit around and say the word “cak-cak-cak” simultaneously, because this dance is also named as “kecak dance”. Hand movement presented in the show actually tells a Ramayana story that is on the event of Goddess Shinta abducted by Ravana. Until the end of the show usually this dance presents the story of the liberation of Goddess Sintha from the hands of Ravana.
In order to support the story presented in the traditional Balinese dance performance there should also be some characters who play the main role as Hanoman, Sugriwa, Dewi Shinta, Rhama, and Rahwana. In the 70s Wayang Limbak worked hard to promote and introduce kecak dance to foreign countries. In addition to introducing the uniqueness in this dance performances of course the origin of this arts come up in the international world which then attracts foreign tourists to visit Bali.
In its development the dance performances that also tell the story of this puppet is played by an infinite number of men. There are times when presented by dozens of people but in certain events there are also shown massively by thousands of dancers.
The development of kecak dance from the beginning of its creation up to now it can be said quite proud. In addition to the enthusiasm of the people of Bali to the art of Wayan Limbak claimed that the tourists who visit Bali are also very interested in watching a performance of this art movement. No wonder the local government makes kecak dance as one of the icon of local art and culture.
The Monkey Dance is also given as a traditional Balinese dance design on this one. This is given because one scene in the dance performances using fire property as well as the main character who acts as a monkey / Hanuman.
